Require all businesses and public services to accept cash payments
Ensure cash is accepted by the public services and businesses to meet different accessibility requirements. Some bank notes already include tactile markings to help visually impaired people understand the cash they are handling and transacting. We believe digital payments are less accessible.
The Equality Act 2010 underpins the rationale for this petition to ensure cash is a mandated method of payment for goods and services (including government). We believe the refusal of cash should be considered a contravention to the spirit of these acts, to ensure equality and protection of vulnerable groups. The Coinage Act 1971 recognises cash as legal tender in payment of a debt, which applies to many access charge situations ie. parking, LEZ, CAN and ULEZ.
If you want to sign this petition (as opposed to merely discuss it), you need to do that on the government's e-Petitions website.
