Remove joint and several liability in tenancy agreements in proven cases of DV

Petition Details

Prevent the victim being responsible for the debt of the perpetrator if they stop paying rent on a property, including when the victim is unable to return home safely but intends to return. Joint and several liability can allow the perpetrator to continue financial abuse.

Additional Information

Domestic violence victims have suffered enough. It is unfair for them to be liable for the housing costs of their perpetrator. There should be protection in place to prevent this in the case of domestic violence. It's not fair for the victim to suffer financial abuse after they have experienced domestic violence.
