Extend employment protections for jurors to victims and witnesses going to court

Petition Details

Under current employment law victims and witnesses do not have an explicit right to time off to attend court, and are not protected from discrimination for attending court. If jury service is protected in employment law we believe attending court as a victim or witness should be too.

Additional Information

Under the current law, survivors of all types of abuse and violence as well as witnesses can be forced to chose between attending court or avoiding employment issues.

In the same instance, these parties are not protected for this time off and in worst case scenarios could lose employment for absenteeism in the workplace should they attend court without the approval of their employer.
