Dependable manifesto commitments
The government should legislate to require that each policy commitment made in the election manifestos of UK political parties is accompanied by an indication of whether or not that policy would be held sacrosanct in the event of any post-election discussions about the possible formation of a coalition government. This would help to restore some of the confidence which has been lost in the contract which supposedly exists between the electorate and the governments which it elects.
