Don't ask people to disclose previous names after 5 years

Petition Details

We want the Government not to ask people to disclose a previous name where it can be demonstrated a new name has been the sole name used for 5 years.

Additional Information

Remove all requests for people to provide any previous name except where a person is undergoing a DBS or fraud check.

After estrangement from a traumatic family background. I changed my name in 2018, relocated to a different part of the country where I've never used my birth name. I have had legal documents repeatedly issued under my legal name. Transgender people likewise can find being required to disclose and refer to a previous name distressing.

We believe there is little justification in requiring someone to disclose a name that people no longer have any connection to, except in cases of crime prevention or fraud avoidance.
