Petition Action

change the cost of 16's public transport from adult back to child rates

Petition Details

to change the cost of public transport for 16's back to child rates on busses and trains instead of being adult rates or having to buy student passes

Additional Information

the cost change from child to adult is double once someone turns 16 and some families struggle to pay anyway with just child rates weekly. a child week for trains cost £11.50 while for 16 year olds who don't have student passes that cost £30 have to pay £22.50 a week As well since we in the eyes of the law are children we shouldn't have to pay adult prices especially if we don't work and even if we do its less then adult rates

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Decisions about who is eligible for child fares are a matter for individual transport operators, not the UK Government or Parliament.

We could accept a petition calling on the Government to fund reduced bus and train fares for all 16 and 17 year olds, if that's something you'd like to happen.
