Reform need for reasonable grounds to stop and search people concealing identity
Owen’s World Foundation requests that ‘The Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984’ Stop and Search legislation, be amended to remove the need for reasonable grounds for police to stop and search, when a person is concealing their identity in a public place, without a justifiable reason.
We believe this specific amendment to the legislation is the only way to enable the police to start adequately tackling what is happening within our communities. We cannot ignore the link between individuals concealing their identity in public with; anti-social behaviour, criminal activity and possession of knives and other offensive weapons. People do this whilst feeling secure that they are able to commit offences and remain unidentifiable. Our young people are losing their lives, and ruining their futures.
