Provide funding to build 90,000 new social homes
A recent report from Shelter and the National Housing Federation argued that building 90,000 homes would inject £50 billion into the economy.
It could also help to reduce homelessness, avoidable deaths, poor health, fuel poverty, worklessness, poor educational attainment etc.
I would like the government to provide more funding to enable local authorities and housing associations to deliver more homes.
Land owners could receive tax breaks to contribute land to social housing delivery.
The planning system could be changed to make applications for social/affordable housing to be less onerous, expensive and time consuming, reducing the uncertainty of an application.
