Ban targeted online ads for under 16 year-olds based on personal data

Petition Details

We think that the way data is used and shared, to target advertising and influence undeveloped young minds, is destructive. We believe the algorithms are designed to take advantage of addictive tendencies, and exploit choices. We think this is morally wrong, and detrimental to children’s minds.

Additional Information

We think immediate action needs to be taken against these social media giants, who are profiting by sharing data and targeting those under 16 with advertising and algorithms, which we think are designed to keep them addicted to using their devices and social media. We consider that this is extremely damaging to their development. I have seen many examples of this in young people under 16. I am very much someone who thinks children need protecting at all costs, and I think this is a good place to start.
