Allow tenants to end tenancy agreement if landlord fails to complete repairs

Petition Details

Enable private tenants to end their tenancy agreement without landlord's permission if they fail to complete repairs within two months of being notified. This should include issues like mould, leaks and critical repairs like toilets, heaters, boilers.

Additional Information

Too many landlords fail to complete repairs like mould and leaks in properties, but private tenants have currently no power to end that tenancy early.

I want tenants to have the legal right to end their tenancy without any financial backlash, if landlords fail to complete repairs within two months of them being reported. No exit fees and with no possibility of the landlord suing for rent or bills beyond what is owed on the final day of notice given by the tenant.
