Stop National Insurance payments after reaching 35 years of contributions

Petition Details

I would like the Government to allow people who have reached 35 years of NI contributions to stop making payments.

Additional Information

I want the Government to stop what I believe to be the unfairness of people still paying NI after they have achieved the 35 years required for the full new basic state pension.

I do not think it is fair that NI payments continue to be taken after reaching the 35 years requirement for a full pension, as some people pay in for longer than others.

I also think the situation has been made more unfair by raising the state pension age. By the time I retire at 67 I will have paid 16 years more than the 35 years for full pension, that's 51 years NI paid as I worked since the age of 16. On my current wage, that adds up to approximately £38,000 in additional contributions.”
