Stop Government Plans to advise Local Authorities to stop funding Music Services
It has been proven that children who learn musical instruments generally do better at other subjects, and become more empathetic and understanding people.
The DoE's idea is that "music services should now be funded through music education hubs (which can cover one or more local authority areas) and from school budgets, not from the ESG [Education Services Grant]".
This is yet another attempt by successive Governments to cut funding to the teaching of music within State Schools. It will do precisely what Michael Gove has previously stated he does not want to happen...that "Music education must not become the preserve of those children whose families can afford to pay for music tuition".
The Government must take steps to continue or preferably increase spending on Music Education within the state school sector.
