Mandate universal single-occupant toilets that are accessible without a key
Following the new law making it mandatory to include single-sex toilets in new non-domestic buildings and existing buildings undergoing major refurbishment, require these buildings to have mandatory universal single-occupancy toilets, accessible without a key.
The Government's new law aims to reverse the rise of gender-neutral toilets, as stated in a GOV.UK press release.
Many transgender and nonbinary people may feel unable to safely and comfortably use public toilets, potentially reducing their use of public spaces and even their ability to work in public spaces or offices. Disabled toilets are often locked and should be reserved for people who need them, but universal single-occupancy toilets are rare. We think it would be unethical to leave trans people without an alternative.
