Ban Compies from Selling Marketing Databases of Peronsal Information

Additional Information

In the interests of preventing identity theft and reducing junk mail (electronic and paper), I write this petition in order to get the act of selling databases containing the personal information of individuals made illegal.

At the very least, the holder/seller of the database should be legally required to inform the individual of:

1) their holding of the data and give the individual reasonable time (six months) to opt-out before its initial sale;

2) from where they got it in the first place - who passed it to the marketing company to begin with;

3) details of all sales of it including the buyer's details, price and intended use;
