Move 'Whitehall' north
Moving Parliament and 'Whitehall'/core civil service at least 100 miles north, to a more central location outside the south east should be seriously debated and voted upon.
Advantages:
Would reduce...
north/south divide
City influence
SE housing pressure
SE transport congestion & need for new runway
need for HS2
housing benefits/high London rents
and
make parliament physically less distant, more accessible
boost the economy outside London
could become one of the proposed new garden cities
Drawbacks?
cost? possibly neutral
upheaval for MP's, civil servants?
reduce the power of London/SE
London no longer the capital (still tourist attraction)
reduce SE housing price bubbles?
