The Police should be able to sue convicted criminals for the costs to the state of their crimes

Additional Information

Why should tax payers suffer the cost burden of crime? Why not the criminals?

The police, other prosecuting authorities, local government etc. should be able to take out civil court proceedings to recover the cost of investigating and prosecuting criminals from the convicted.
