Improved rights for temporary workers
Temporary / Agency workers play a vital role in a number of key industries especially in logistics & Distribution.
* Bring in a restriction that forces agencies / companies to issue a minimum of a 48 hour notice for assignment terminations except when it is deemed a case of gross misconduct can be upheld.
* Prevent agencies / companies from discriminating against workers who have time off for genuine sickness.
* Force agencies / companies to utilise formal disciplinary procedures for agency / temporary workers.
* Prohibit agencies / companies from contacting temporary / agency workers (unless for emergency shift cover) between the hours of 6pm and 6am.
* Force agencies / companies to prohibit the use of text messaging and phone calls when terminating assignments.
* Encourage agencies to offer workers a standby wage - to be paid for workers who have been registered for a minimum of 6 weeks, and to be paid whilst awaiting a new assignment.
