Those with psychiatric conditions and who are in crisis, have the right to request admission informally until they can be assessed by a psychiatrist
Currently the main advice for those suffering with mental health conditions out of hours, or even within hours with some services, is to attend A&E if they feel they are in crisis.
And even if they do so, the psychiatric liaison nurse has the right to turn them away based on their own judgement even if the client themselves asks to be admitted and the nurse decides whom is contacted next - and any team will not reach the client till opening hours.
The ministry of Health must look at its neglect of mental health patients, and hand them back their independence and rights by allowing them a say in their own treatment and stop their pleads for help by allowing them the rights of anyone else in different areas of healthcare. By listening to those who know they are ill and getting them the treatment they need and giving them the rights they deserve. To allow them to admit themselves informally to acute psychiatric inpatient until they can be assessed by a qualified psychiatrist.
