Replace road tax with fuel duty
Discontinue the requirement for road fund licence and replace it with a small increase in fuel duty.
This would ensure that everyone pays fairly as those who use the roads most would have to pay more.
The amount paid would be directly proportional to CO2 emissions, thereby encouraging people to buy fuel efficient cars.
It also means that owners of older, yet fuel efficient cars will not be penalised.
Surely this is the most logical way of collecting tax and promoting energy saving?
