Scanning of pets and amendment to handling of deceased pets
As the founder of Missing Cats In Scotland (Tigerlily Feline Foundation), I feel it is a tragedy that cats, and in some cases dogs, that are run over and picked up by the local councils and/or cleansing departments, do not check if these pets are micro-chipped.
Further to this, all councils should keep a detailed report of each cat lifted by their teams in the event an owner can be traced. I also believe a central point/website should be made accessible to missing pet and animal welfare groups who may be able to help bring closure to owners. The handling and communication between the public and any persons/council responsible for the uplift and removal of the remains should be professional with a sense of compassion.
This is an issue that needs addressed in many aspects
