Increase direct democracy
Enable the UK public to determine Government policy independent of party politics. The Scottish independence referendum shows that we, the public, can be engaged with politics (87% turnout) when the cause matters to us.
Allow us to choose referendums on what matters to us, not just what the political parties tell us we have permission to decide. For example, use a larger cut-off for epetitions (such as 2.5 million) to trigger a referendum on a question.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.
You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
