Ban social media access for under 16s with mandatory government ID verification
Our proposed solution:
Require all social media users to verify their age through a government-issued ID, ensuring strict compliance with age restrictions.
Mandate that social media companies enforce this ID check and be held accountable for allowing minors on their platform through fines.
Studies highlight the detrimental effects of social media on young people's mental health.
Children are exposed to inappropriate, harmful and violent content which impacts their emotional and psychological health.
Anonymity on social media fuels cyberbullying and harassment by predators.
Excessive social media use can lead underdeveloped social skills and addiction.
Requiring government ID will improve data privacy and protection for young users.
