Review Tax Credit Overpayment system

Petition Details

Tax Credit Overpayments may be claimed many years even decades after the tax credits were paid. The HMRC can take money away from benefit payments. We think this needs to be reviewed by an impartial party.

Additional Information

When applying for tax credits, claimants have to send the government relevant information. Every year this is reviewed and updated. Years, even decades later, money can be taken out of benefits, which is being claimed is for alleged overpayments.

We want a review to look at how to give vulnerable claimants a way out of this overpayment system.
