Petition Action

Fund more training for police in dog control matters.

Petition Details

We think more funding is needed for police officers to be thoroughly trained in dog behaviour and handling. We feel more training in expert handling, i.e. using tranquiliser guns, could prevent distress or danger to dogs and the public. We think that training in breed identification is essential.

Additional Information

We feel that changes in dog laws has put additional pressure on front line police. We think dog behaviour, handling and breed identification is essential to their role and training would ensure they have the necessary skills to protect the public and to minimise stress to dogs, that may have strayed, been abandoned or involved in an incident. These skills could make situations involving dogs better and safer for everyone.
