Create a public holiday in November to honour and remember our veterans
We feel that a 2-minute silence on 11/11 at the 11th hour to honour those who fell in the line of duty (making the ultimate sacrifice for our country) and those who put their lives on the line every day still is not enough.
We think we need a Veterans Day as in the US to honour and remember them, both living and dead. As veterans of World Wars and global conflicts die and grow fewer, their stories could be lost to future generations. Their sacrifices could go unhonoured save for 2 minutes each year when people stand silently and then go back to their day. A Veterans Day public holiday the day after Remembrance Sunday could allow us all to spend time with our families to honour the fallen and those serving today. Time to reflect on their sacrifices and educate future generations in the process.
If you want to sign this petition (as opposed to merely discuss it), you need to do that on the government's e-Petitions website.
