Petition Action

Broaden eligibility for de facto adoptions from non-Hague countries

Petition Details

I think that the changes to immigration rules made last year (HC 590) should be amended, and eligibility to bring de facto adopted children in the UK should be widened. I think that the new rules make it unnecessarily difficult to bring de facto adopted children into the UK, separating families.

Additional Information

The change to the definition of parent in the immigration rules has impacted eligibility to bring a de facto adopted child to the UK, in cases where the parent has temporary immigration permission (such as, as a skilled worker). I think that this unfair and is separating families unnecessarily. I think that this rule should be changed so that parents entering the UK can bring their de facto adopted children, regardless of the settled status of the parents.
