Make election manifestos legally binding on political parties.
Create a mechanism so that if a political party breaks a manifesto commitment, the Secretary of State for the relevant Department must automatically resign. If a political party breaks a principle of their manifesto, or if perceived to do so, then the Leader must take responsibility and resign.
This would ensure politicians are held to account and not able to ignore the promises they were elected on. They cannot be elected on one set of promises and then enact another. This has led to manifestos not being worth their weight and a distrust in the political system.
