Hold Leaders Accountable Cut Government Pay Hikes Amid the Cost of Living Crisis
While millions struggle amid the cost of living, energy crisis, and public service cuts, MPs’ salaries have increased by over £9,400 since 2020. Their most recent raise in 2024 brings their pay to £91,346, totalling an increase of around £6.1 million.
The government and MPs should show solidarity with those struggling during the cost-of-living and energy crises by freezing or reducing their own salaries. Since 2020, MPs' pay has risen by over £9,400, totalling around £6.1 million. Meanwhile, vital services like healthcare, education, and local programs have faced severe cuts due to insufficient funding, with local government spending power down by 26% since 2010. Reducing MPs' pay could help ease these pressures.
