Petition Action

Require ministers to be Members of the House of Commons and not the Lords

Petition Details

The UK government should pass a law banning the appointment of government ministers from the House of Lords, so that ministers can be appointed from the House of Commons only.

Additional Information

The House of Lords is an unelected chamber. We believe the fact that government ministers, including Secretaries of State, can be appointed from this chamber, seems undemocratic given the decision-making power these individuals have.

Therefore, we propose a ban on this so that our current, and future, governments are comprised entirely of elected ministers.
