Hold a Royal Commission on reform of the Westminster voting system
Establish a Royal Commission immediately on the voting system to recommend changes be introduced at the next General Election.
We feel we need a cross-party effort to increase voter participation, to get a Commons that more accurately reflects public opinion, and to improve democratic legitimacy & law-making.
The UK government has full executive power. But only around one in five voters voted for the current government. Around two in five didn’t vote, in some cases because they feel their vote doesn't count.
We believe more voter participation and fairer Commons representation for all shades of opinion would generate more democratic legitimacy, improve law-making, and reduce group-think policy errors we feel have been seen in the last decade by enabling more effective Commons scrutiny.
If you want to sign this petition (as opposed to merely discuss it), you need to do that on the government's e-Petitions website.
