Debate NetZero policy so UK gas production isn’t replaced with foreign imports.
The UK Government should review its Energy & Climate policies to ensure they don’t increase the importation of hydrocarbons, simply outsourcing emissions. This practice would contradict the spirit of the UK's commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050 and undermine global climate leadership.
The UK has significantly reduced its domestic production of hydrocarbons, but we believe current policy is increasing imports from overseas. Such a shift would simply move emissions offshore rather than reducing them on a global scale.
We believe that Net Zero policies should achieve a genuine reduction in global emissions. We think that current practices risk undermining public trust in climate goals.
We believe that importation exposes the UK to major geopolitical risks and market volatility.
