Amend Human Rights Act and review all laws
We would like the Human Rights Act 1998 to be amended to cover “freedom of speech and thought” rather than “freedom of expression”. We would also like all laws to be reviewed from a human rights perspective, and any laws that are assessed to breach these rights to be repealed.
We think laws used to be based on actions but are now too much based on feelings and words, which we believe is eroding our rights. We believe laws based on feelings are a very bad idea, because of their subjective nature, and that such laws can be weaponised.
We consider that amongst the UK population this has generated great fear of saying or doing the wrong thing, and that, furthermore, our Police are wasting time policing feelings and words as opposed to tackling other crime. Free speech is necessary for a healthy democracy.
If you want to sign this petition (as opposed to merely discuss it), you need to do that on the government's e-Petitions website.
