Petition Action

Enable broadcasting of all live football games on cable/satellite/internet.

Petition Details

The present system has a blackout from 2:45pm – 5:25pm. It isn't permitted to televise any games & was introduced in 1960. This law needs updating to bring it into the 21st century & to counter the growing illegal market.

Additional Information

The illegal streaming business is growing & we recently witnessed the Europol service action on illegal streaming which is earning criminals €250m per month on subscriptions. This can’t be a good business model for the governments around the globe.
Surely the money made for legal forms can be used to help the whole of the sports industry.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Decisions about when to hold and broadcast football matches are a matter for the FA, the Premier League and the Football League, and broadcasters, not the Government or House of Commons.
