Recognize Scottish as an Official Global Language
Recognize Scottish as a distinct language, not a dialect of English. This recognition should include measures to protect and promote it, ensuring its inclusion in education, public services, and digital systems. Recognition of Scottish will honor linguistic diversity, equality, and inclusion
Recognizing Scottish as a distinct language is crucial for preserving Scotland's cultural heritage and promoting linguistic diversity. By officially acknowledging it, the government will ensure Scottish speakers receive equal access to education, technology, and public services in their native tongue. This will empower over 1.5 million speakers, ensure the language thrives, and promote inclusivity, equality, and respect for all languages. Recognition of Scottish strengthens Scotland’s identity and contributes to a more diverse, inclusive society.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can only accept petitions about things the UK Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.
The UK Government and Parliament are not responsible for recognising languages as official global languages.
Language recognition in Scotland is a devolved matter that the Scottish Government and Parliament are responsible for. The Scottish Parliament has its own Petitions Committee. You can find out more here: petitions.parliament.scot/
