Implement Proportional Property-Based Fines for Illegal Fox Hunting.
People convicted of offences under the Hunting Act 2004, including illegal fox hunting, should be liable for fines based on the market value of their main residence, even if they do not own it, as well as all properties they own or transferred to family members in the last 5 years.
Fines should escalate for repeat offenders and fund rural policing.
We believe that illegal fox hunting continues despite legal restrictions, and that the current penalties are not sufficient to deter wealthy offenders. We think that tying fines to property value, including rental homes and transferred assets, would ensure accountability; create a stronger deterrent; fund wildlife protection, and ensure that those responsible are held financially liable in proportion to their wealth.
