Reduce Discrimination: option to omit birthplace in passports & driving licenses
We think birthplace is outdated for identification, as fingerprints offer higher accuracy. Please add option to omit place of birth from passport & driving license, as you can do in places like Canada & Japan. We think requiring birthplace inclusion increases discrimination risk & privacy invasion.
We think immigrants who’ve worked hard, paid taxes still aren’t seen as 'actually one of us.' For some, birthplace could trigger trauma from war or occupation—why risk being reminded of it when verifying ID or age? Article 8 of European Convention on Human Rights guarantees the Right to Private Life, which we feel the UK has signed yet fail to fully defend.
