Give automatic equal benefits rights to separated parents who are co-parenting

Petition Details

It's 2025. Many couples do not stay in relationships like our grandparents or ancestors used to. If parents are amicable, we think that each parent should get equal rights to housing, benefits and support.

Additional Information

We think the government need to change the current rules and that child benefit should be shared if parents are co-parenting in a 50/50 agreement.

Currently, the parent in receipt of child benefit gets prioritised for social housing and the other parent is classed as a single person and of lesser priority. The "single" person also wouldn't be granted additional bedrooms when applying for social housing.
