Petition Action

Self-employed parents to pay correct child maintenance.

Petition Details

Some self-employed parents hide their income via small LTD companies. The main care giver is financially bearing the majority of the financial emotional and physical care responsibilities of the children.

Additional Information

Should parents say they do not have the means to pay, the CSA should have the ability to demand or automatically access their business and personal accounts In order to regain missed or back payments immediately. Use the previous 12 months business and personal bank accounts to determine the appropriate amount of child maintenance which should be paid.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Child Maintenance Service can already consider the taxable reported profits of a self-employed parent, and there are circumstances where a paying parent will be required to provide bank statements as evidence. A receiving parent can also report to the Child Maintenance Service if they believe the paying parent is hiding income, and in complex cases a report can be made to the Financial Investigations Unit for investigation.
