Amend Article 6 of the Human Rights Act to ensure a fair trial for Victims
Unlike defendants, whose right to a fair trial is a Human Right with legal consequences when breached, breaches of the Victims’ Code carry no legal consequences. We think this leaves victims unsupported. We think equal rights are essential for fairness.
Victims may face delays, mishandled evidence, and systemic failures that deepen their trauma. Without enforceable rights, we think they remain vulnerable and inadequately supported in a system designed to protect everyone. Amending Article 6 could ensure victims have a right to a fair trial and are treated equally, and with dignity. We think this critical change would restore trust, hold institutions accountable, and address the systemic imbalance that we feel silences victims while safeguarding offenders. We think equal rights are essential for justice.
