Stricter laws on selling vapes

Petition Details

Same laws as selling cigarettes. Vapes shouldn’t be on shelves in shops they should be behind shop counters. They are too accessible for children and packaged like sweets. Fruity sweetie flavours are not necessary!!

Additional Information

Too many children are vaping! It is seen as cool and there is peer pressure to do it. Children are stealing vapes off shelves and the shop staff do not challenge them as it’s above their pay scale or they are too scared. Drastic action needs to be taken NOW!! The future side effects of vaping is uncertain. What is certain is the strain already on our NHS!! It will only get worse in the future! Would a self-employed Vape shop owner turn away under-age customers? Highly unlikely!

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The Tobacco and Vapes Bill grants ministers powers to regulate the packaging of vapes and other nicotine products to reduce their appeal to children, including restricting flavours and contents.

As outlined in the GOV.UK blogs, it also includes provisions that could lead to vapes being kept behind the counter, similar to tobacco products, with the government having the power to regulate their display and packaging.
