Introduce 18 year residency and English language requirements to vote in general
The Government should legislate so that you must have been resident in the UK for a minimum of 18 years and be able to show a degree of proficiency in the English language in order to register to vote in General Elections.
I believe the18-year minimum residency period can provide immigrants time to learn about our culture and vote for the benefit of society. I believe English proficiency could allow people to understand the issues being debated and not depend on others. It could also encourage immigrants from different backgrounds to learn English and integrate better into British society.
