Implement FIRS Now: Include PRC & HKSAR Gov-Affiliated Entities on Enhanced Tier
We urge the Government to protect British democracy: 1) To implement FIRS without further delay and 2) to include entities associated with the People’s Republic of China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region governments on the enhanced tier of FIRS in the list of proposed foreign entities.
The ISC warned in 2023 of China’s efforts to gain political influence and economic advantage in the UK. MI5 identified Christine Lee as an “agent of influence” for the CCP, engaging in political interference. CSSAs, linked to the Chinese embassy, monitor and intimidate Chinese students. Security Minister Dan Jarvis named China a top threat. Hong Kongers have sought refuge in the UK in the hope that they can exercise their freedoms here without fear, which they no longer can back home.
