Demand Government reverse their decision to postpone local elections for a year
We want all these local elections to go ahead this year.
Any extension of term of office should be approved by the local electorate and this has not been. His Majesty the King should not approve this undemocratic measure.
Any proposed reorganisation of local councils should have a local referendum
The government must allow these local elections to take place even if some Councillors have a potential short term of office.
The government want to create super local authorities each covering about 500,000 people.
This could result in less local power and more centralised power.
These proposals may not happen as there may not be agreement or local voters may decide against them in a referendum.
Such proposals should not be dictated but decided by local referenda,
which should be organised.
