Petition Action

Create an NHS emergency mental health telephone service

Petition Details

Fund an NHS mental health telephone service, similar to 111, for emergency assistance aimed towards persons in time sensitive situations where they or others are in a life threatening circumstance.

Additional Information

Current mental health charity services like Mind, Shout and Calm are able to provide basic support but the funding is not available to fully train staff for life threatening emergencies. Having a single, simple and rememberable contact number, instead of the plethora of existing 11 digit contact numbers, will encourage persons to reach out for assistance when at their worst due to a simpler and straightforward telephone number and service.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Currently, for urgent, non-life-threatening mental health issues, people can call NHS 111 and select the mental health option, while for life-threatening emergencies, they can call 999.

If you would like changes to this system, you could start a petition about that.
