People may be relying on their pension to retire comfortably and without leading to poverty, and then the unforeseen could happen and they've lost 50% of their pension, which doesn't allow for a comfortable retirement.

Additional Information

We think allowing pensions to be considered in divorce settlements can lead to unfairness, for example where one party has opted out of their workplace pension.
