Strengthen laws on Phone Theft & stolen data

Petition Details

Introduce harsher punishments for phone theft, regardless of the perpetrator’s age. Recognize the loss of software, data, and personal information as a significant factor in legal proceedings.
Classify the theft and misuse of personal data from stolen devices as a specific offence.

Additional Information

According to the recent crime statistics, phone theft has surged, particularly in urban areas.
Many thefts can involve violence or intimidation, making it a serious safety concern.
Phones are stolen and quickly resold or stripped for parts, creating a lucrative criminal industry.
Personal and sensitive data (bank details, photos, private communications) can often be compromised.
Victims can suffer emotional distress, privacy violations, and financial risks (such as fraud or identity theft).
