Petition Action

Make insulting or defaming people on the basis of LGBTQ+ identity a crime

Petition Details

Make UK law in line with countries like France where intentionally insulting LGBTQ+ people, for example by misgendering, is punishable by a fine.

Additional Information

Evidence has demonstrated that the biggest predictors of poor health outcomes for LGBTQ+ people is not being treated with respect and dignity.

‘Free speech’ to insult the LGBTQ+ community has become rampant including being allowed in our institutions. It is not just offensive but causes lasting harm to LGBTQ+ people.

It’s time we built the respectful society we wish to see, not by forcing different beliefs but by expecting a basic level of respect for everyone
