Protect Our Digital Privacy: Uphold Strong Encryption Standards
The UK Government must commit to protecting strong encryption and reject any measures that would weaken digital security, such as mandating backdoors. Any proposed changes to encryption laws should be transparent, subject to public debate, and ensure the privacy and security of all UK citizens.
Strong encryption protects personal data, online banking, private messages, and national security. Weakening it would make everyone more vulnerable to cyber threats, fraud, and surveillance. Experts, including the UK’s Information Commissioner, warn against undermining encryption. Any government proposals affecting encryption must be transparent, debated publicly, and protect citizens’ digital privacy.
