Repeal or update the Investigatory Powers Act

Petition Details

Repeal or update the Investigatory Powers Act to make it compatible with end to end encryption. At the moment companies are pulling end to end encryption products off the market as they can’t offer it in a way that’s compliant with the law.

Additional Information

End-to-end encryption (E2EE) is essential for protecting privacy, ensuring secure communication, and safeguarding sensitive data from hackers, and malicious actors. It prevents unauthorized access by ensuring only the sender and intended recipient can read messages, which is crucial for journalists, activists, businesses, and everyday users.
