Base Extended Producer Responsibility fees for packaging on units not weight
In its current format, the EPR regulations disproportionately impact businesses using glass. We think the regulations should be changed from a weight-based fee structure to a unit-based one to help towards the UK's Net Zero Goals.
The weight-based fee structure disproportionately impacts businesses using glass despite it being one of the most sustainable and safest packaging materials available.
We believe the current EPR model:
- Drives up costs for businesses and consumers during a cost-of-living crisis
- Pushes companies to switch to less sustainable materials
- Gives an advantage to imported glass with higher carbon footprints
